After experiencing the performance of ABB’s DCS system and ABB’s project execution capability and commitment, DUBAL decided to go ahead with the same DCS and the same team to upgrade the desalination plant’s control system.
With this contract, the existing DCS will be replaced by ABB’s Procontrol P14 DCS system which enhances the real-time sharing of knowledge between related and divergent enterprise operations.
The system results in increased productivity across various sectors at the plant. It helps the operation, maintenance and management teams in terms of ergonomics, optimization, reduced down time, faster decision-making in addition to an overall cost reduction of spares and services.
Part of the field instrumentation will also be replaced on a turnkey basis, including the pressure and temperature transmitters. This latest instrumentation enables better and faster process monitoring. The project started in October 2012 and will be delivered in June 2013.
Strong relationship established

Operation and maintenance requirements were crucial in the selection of Procontrol P14. By extending the desalination controls to Procontrol P14, the client benefits from service and life-cycle support from ABB.
The existing maintenance contract between ABB and DUBAL will be extended to the new system thereby making it more convenient and cost effective for the customer.
