ABB fun run raises RM17,000 and greater awareness on autism

Feb 23 : Thanks to the generous contribution from ABB staff, their families, business partners and friends, the ABB NASOM Charity Fun Run raised a sum of RM17,000 in support of The National Autism Society of Malaysia (NASOM). Held on Sunday, February 19, at Perdana Botanical Garden (Lake Gardens), the event drew participants of all ages as they worked up a sweat while contributing to a good cause.
“We chose to collaborate with NASOM to support the important work that they do to create greater awareness and acceptance for people with autism,” said Ahmad Hadafi bin Jus, Chairman of the Organizing Committee for the event. “Not many are aware about autism which can be often misdiagnosed or undetected in children,” he added.

Speaking at the event, Rakesh Khandelwal, Local Business Unit Manager, Electrification Solutions, Electrification Products division said “I am deeply touched by the spirit of giving demonstrated by our ABB colleagues and their families. Those who were unable to attend did not hesitate to reach into their pockets to support the cause”.

The charity fun run held a mix of healthy competition and family fun outing as running enthusiasts took to the course to complete the race leaving families enjoying the meticulously landscaped park at a more leisurely pace.

Commenting on the event, Puan Feilina Feisol, Chairman, National Autism Society of Malaysia said, “Proceeds from the run goes a long way towards helping NASOM to maintain its centers to train autistic people with vocational skills as well as other basic living skills. Autism can happen to anyone, regardless of gender, ethnicity and class. As such, public awareness and acceptance goes a long way in helping people with autism maximize their quality of life and live in a society in which their talents and skills are appreciated and valued.”
