ABB Heidelberg awarded certificate for resource efficiency and recycling management

2016-10-31 - ABB in Heidelberg is among the top ‘100 Businesses for Resource Efficiency’ in Baden-Württemberg, a Southern county of Germany. The certificate was presented by Franz Untersteller, minister of the environment, climate protection and energy sector of the county Baden-Württemberg, during the congress for resource efficiency and recycling management, Baden-Württemberg, which took place in Karlsruhe on 5 October.

This certificate is awarded for ABB’s successful measures to reduce oil consumption in a high-pressure permanent lubrication system at ABB Stotz-Kontakt in Heidelberg. Thanks to the application of a blowing and suction chamber where work pieces are de-oiled, a considerable reduction of used lubricants and waste is achieved.

Since the introduction in September 2011 more than 18 tons of lubricants have been saved. Consequently CO2 emissions decreased by 52 tons. This technology and approach can be easily transferred to other businesses and factories, serving as a great starting point for reducing oil consumption in various processes.

“With energy efficient and climate-friendly processes and solutions, we are already making a difference for the future,” explains Hans W. Schaefer, member of the Executive Committee of ABB Stotz-Kontakt, “Because responsible handling of resources is an integral part of the ABB company strategy.”

The project ‘100 Businesses for Resource Efficiency’ is an essential part of the ‘Alliance for more Resource Efficiency“, which was established between the county government and leading trade associations of Baden-Württemberg in 2013. Among those is the Association of the Industry in Baden-Württemberg (LVI) and the regional parts of the Chambers of Industry and Commerce Association (BWIHK), the Association of the Chemical Industry e. V. (VCI), the German Engineering Federation (VDMA), as well as the German Electrical and Electronic Manufacturers' Association (ZVEI).

In 2015 ABB in Germany reached a sales volume of 3.40 billion Euros and employs 10,770 people.
