ABB launches touch screen operator interface panels for its Compact control products

New Panel 800 human-machine interface (HMI), part of ABB’s Essential Automation Compact Product Suite, adds enhanced graphics and expanded functionality
Singapore, March 25, 2013 – ABB, the leading power and automation technology group, announced today the release of Panel 800 Version 6, an operator interface panel for its Compact control products for process and general industries. The release includes three new touch panels, and also includes a new configuration tool, Panel Builder 800 Version 6.

ABB has enhanced Panel 800, an industrial touch-screen panel, with new features to make the operator’s task of controlling processes and equipment less complicated. With the new easy to use action menus and roller panels, operators can interact with the process more quickly. With its extensive drive library, Panel 800 can be used in multi-controller applications, wherein one tag connects to several controllers regardless of brand, including automation equipment such as PLCs, servos and drives.

Panel 800 uses less energy than traditional interfaces by incorporating a dimmable and high-resolution LED touch-panel display. It is also designed to withstand demanding industrial environments, with IP65/66 rating for specific models.

The new Panel Builder 800 software, which now supports seven (7) languages, presents the engineering environment with a familiar Microsoft® “look and feel” to help users to configure the system faster than ever.

“Ease of use, robustness and reliability, and the promotion of a truly open platform are essential qualities in any automation solution, including HMIs. We built this latest Panel 800 release around these concepts,” said Lennart Z. Andersson, ABB’s Product Manager for Panel 800.

In addition to the enhanced features, pricing has been reduced when compared with previous versions of the Panel 800, making it more cost-effective. This panel can be used with ABB systems and any third-party systems.
