ABB helps children in need with school supplies

Jan 12 : Second week into the new academic year and the flurry of back-to-school activities have yet to subside. For some, basic necessities such as uniforms, shoes or school bags are still much needed to replace worn out hand-me-downs. To help underprivileged children start the year on a new and happy note, ABB contributed school supplies to a total of 90 students around Subang, Selangor.
Launched in 2009, the program involves students from mainly three schools namely Sekolah Kebangsaan USJ 2, Sekolah Kebangsaan Seafield 3 and Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan USJ 8. The contribution comprises basic necessities such as a complete set of uniform, bag, shoes and stationery items.

The students received their pack from Jukka Poutanen, Managing Director, ABB Malaysia, at an event held on Thursday, January 12, at Sekolah Kebangsaan USJ 2. “Going back to school matters to children. It is a time to catch up with old friends and meet new ones. As such, having a brand new uniform or school bag like all the other children matters. It’s about fitting in,” Jukka explained.

“This annual contribution makes a difference in so many ways. Instead of being embarrassed about their old attire, these children can now look forward to school like any other students. It gives them the confidence to thrive and secure a better future,” Mohd Fairudz added.

At the event, students waited patiently in line to receive their gift packs. The picture of politeness and decorum was quickly overtaken by happy chatters as the students checked their new school supplies.

A total of 550 students have benefitted from this program to-date which underscores ABB’s commitment towards helping children, especially the less fortunate, thrive academically.
