The report serves as the UAE’s national reference source for the country’s energy sector and highlights the successes achieved within the framework of the country’s national energy strategy.

According to the Ministry’s official press release, the report reviews the country's efforts to diversify energy sources, incorporate clean energy and energy efficiency solutions, as well as balancing water, energy and food links in an innovative way to achieve the UAE's 2021 vision on energy and carbon emissions reduction. The report includes several sections: Energy Status, Future Energy, Energy and Innovation, Green Cities, Energy Production, Energy and Climate Change, Energy and Transport, Renewable, Clean and Alternative Energy, energy and water decoupling. The 2017 report contains articles written by a number of decision makers and experts in the field of energy in the UAE, including ABB’s Mr AlGuezeri.
His Excellency Suhail bin Mohammed Al Mazrouei, UAE Minister of Energy, remarked in the launch ceremony for the report about the role played by the UAE at the global level in the framework of international efforts to reduce carbon emissions and the commitment of the UAE to achieve its clean energy goals. He also commented on his country’s achievements in collaboration with its strategic partners and stakeholders in the energy sector, such as ABB, in the development of the UAE National Energy Strategy 2050. The Strategy aims to increase the contribution of clean energy capacity in the UAE’s total energy mix to 50 percent, which will enable savings of 700 billion UAE Dirhams (approximately US$ 190 billion) by 2050.
His Excellency Dr. Matar Hamid Al Neyadi, Undersecretary of the UAE Ministry of Energy, added that the UAE has demonstrated its regional leadership in the field of sustainable energy through its green initiatives and environmental policies. He stated that the annual UAE State of Energy Report is a useful reference tool for global decision makers to enable best practices towards achieving energy security and meeting the challenges of global climate change.
