ABB highlights digital substation technology leadership at the 11th annual conference of CIGRÉ Canada


ABB Grid Automation product managers delivered multiple technical papers this October at the 11th annual conference of CIGRÉ Canada in Vancouver, further demonstrating ABB’s unique positions as the partner of choice for stronger, smarter and greener grids in North America as well as increasing digitalization in all areas of the power industry.

As Diamond sponsor, ABB continued its long standing support for the conference and presented 8 technical papers at the annual conference, which has become a Canadian tradition and a key annual forum for the exchange of technical knowledge and ideas between Canadian and international delegates in the area of power systems with a focus on the practical application of innovations across the power industry.

Peter Rietmann, Global Product Manager, Grid Automation who’s technical presentations “Reliable and interoperable digital substation” and “Access control: from default local device access levels to centralized managed role-based access control” further highlighted ABB’s digital substation technology leadership and Steve Kunsman’s “What is network resiliency?” presentation at the Plenary session emphasized several Digital Substation values for improving grid resilience.

Ramon Baechli, Product Manager, ABB Communication Networks who delivered the technical paper and presentation - “Teleprotection ensuring highest performance of the protection system using packet switched wide area networks”, highlighted ABB’s continued utility communications domain expertise and with the FOX615 multiservice platform a solution that can provide robust, resilient and predictable packet switched communications that can transmit the most demanding applications like differential protection via Packet Switched Networks.

In addition to the conference presentations, ABB’s exhibit focused upon our leading Digital Substation technology and the enabling products, with a key showstopper being the virtual reality experience of the ABB Digital Substation.
