ABB unveils new innovative technology and Authorized Value Providers in the Gulf

2012-12-09 - The latest ABB technology; ‘all compatible’ drive ACS880, the energy-efficient synchronous reluctance motor and drive package, was introduced to the markets at the recent 3rd Gulf Region Channel Partner Conference. The event was held at ABB’s brand new Learning Zone at HQ building in Abu Dhabi, UAE.
“In our product development work, we have been able to cooperate closely with the customers, tailoring the products according to the needs in different industrial sectors”, says Aki Maenpaa, local division manager, Discrete Automation and Motion in the Gulf.

The ACS880 drive is designed to meet the requirements set by different users, processes, businesses and environmental goals while the energy-efficient synchronous reluctance motor (SRM) and drive package has modern design: “The synchronous reluctance motor and drive package is unique due to the design of its rotor which has no windings, unlike traditional synchronous designs. The rotor suffers virtually no power losses and its temperature remains lower than in conventional rotors”, continues Maenpaa.

ABB has succeeded in using this technology to achieve better power density and higher energy efficiency. The package includes a matched motor and drive with dedicated software. Optimized for variable speed operation it offers smooth, efficient process control and optimal use of energy.

The conference included also an update on the mechanical power transmission products offered by Baldor Electric Company, a North American leader in industrial motors – acquired by ABB in 2011, highlighting ABB’s complete portfolio and unique, competitive edge.

Another highlight of the event was the announcement of the latest companies to join ABB’s Authorized Value Provider (AVP) program: JGB International CO. W.L.L, Bahrain, Powertech Switchgear Industries, UAE, ExOx Engg LLC, Qatar, PAC International W.L.L, Qatar, FBM Trading LLC, UAE and Faisal Jassim Trading Company, UAE.
