Digital technologies represented by the Internet of Things, cloud computing, big data and mobile communication are heralding the Fourth Industrial Revolution, set to drive transformation across all sectors including the food and beverage industry. In light of these technological developments, ABB in Vietnam recently hosted its Food and Beverage Customer Day in Ho Chi Minh City, showcasing some of its latest technologies for this industry.
Themed “Digitalization-led Transformation in Food and Beverage”, the half-day event included seminars, where hot topics such as challenges and solutions in energy, quality, safety and efficiency were discussed. A technology showcase area highlighted ABB’s digital offerings, including performance management solutions for the asset-intensive food and beverage industry, process control systems, robotics systems for picking, packing and palletising solutions, measurement analytics and power systems.
“Vietnam offers enormous potential in the area of industrial digitalization,” said ABB Vietnam CEO Brian Hull. “We are really excited to bring ABB Ability™, our unified, cross-industry digital capability, to the country’s food and beverage industry. With domain expertise, deep understanding of market trends and customer needs, along with the recent acquisition of B&R, we believe that our technologies will enable customers to make the most of the opportunities arising from the Fourth Industrial Revolution. ”
The event received high interest from Ministries, trade associations as well as many local and global customers operating in the industry.

A byte out of our digital pie
As one of the world’s fast-emerging economies, Vietnam is an important market for ABB. The food and beverage sector is growing to meet the diverse demands of consumers and contributing greatly to the country’s economy. With this industry shift to meet market requirements, many food and beverage companies are looking for digital solutions to enhance food safety, traceability and optimize plant performance. ABB Ability™ can unlock additional customer value by bringing together ABB’s domain expertise, advanced connectivity and the latest digital technologies.
For example, ABB Ability RobotStudio is the industry benchmark for off-line programming and virtual commissioning. It allows realistic simulations based on actual ABB robot operating software to visualize the results of programming and configuration without costly disruptions on the plant floor.
ABB Ability solutions for manufacturing enable comprehensive horizontal and vertical integration across the enterprise — and to its key suppliers and partners — covering every activity from dispatching to delivery, along with providing real-time visibility into manufacturing processes, which allow for iterative improvements.
