ABB to showcase expanded range of intelligent building solutions at flag-ship trade event

2018-01-24 - Latest addition to ABB AbilityTM smart buildings offering will be unveiled at Light + Building 2018

ABB will showcase the new ABB-tacteo KNX sensor at this year’s Light + Building trade fair in Frankfurt from 18 to 23 March.

Made of glass for the most demanding requirements, it is an individually-configurable control element for intelligent building management of luxury hotels, public buildings and high-class residential buildings.

ABB is at the forefront of driving the market with its ABB Ability™ portfolio of connected and software-enabled solutions developed for home and building automation in a wide range of applications. A market leader in smart building technology for more than 30 years, its extensive product range includes: energy metering; temperature and ventilation systems; security, access, lighting and entertainment controls; electronic wiring accessories; control panels and software platforms.

This latest sensor from ABB is another example of its commitment to developing smart products that are universal in their use but uniform in purpose. The capacitive glass KNX sensors react without touch and contact and offer virtually unlimited possibilities for intelligent building networking. Functions such as heating, blinds, lighting or comfort scenes can be controlled to create unique living and working environments.

Mike Mustapha, Group Executive Vice President Marketing, Sales and Commercial Operations, Electrification Products division, said: “The advent of The Internet of Things – which connects physical devices and vehicles with cloud-based control systems - has enabled us to make huge technological leaps in the field of building control.

“The growing number of IP devices and sensors in homes and work places, coupled with advances in technology, has improved the management of what can be measured to a granular level of detail. Our aim is to convert the data gathered through our portfolio of ABB AbilityTM solutions into useful information to deliver comfortable, safe and efficient buildings that are connected on a global platform.”

Flexibility is a key feature of ABB products to ensure that building functions can be fully customized. All settings can be altered via software, which allows the building automation to adapt to new situations.

Devices are manufactured to international ecological standards and are simple to install with wired or wireless sensors, actuators and sensor-actuator units or DIN-Rail components. Systems such as ABB i-bus® KNX and ABB-free@home® mean that devices can be configured and operated via software, app or cloud connection and are fully future-proof, as well as being easy to install, maintain and operate.

Mike Mustapha added: “The connected living market is expected to continue its expansion for several years to come. As the market grows, so too do the expectations of the end-users, who are increasingly looking for solutions tailored to the individual rather than a group of individuals.

“We are here to ensure that building systems can develop and adapt in line with the changing needs of each and every occupant of a home or work space, from baby listening technology though to customized lighting and temperature control, and assistance of elderly people.”

Delivering real solutions to improve people’s lives and with a proven track record at the cutting edge of innovation in the field, ABB was a pioneer in voice activation and smart building solutions for care homes.

ABB will be welcoming guests in hall 8, stand F60/G60 at Light + Building 2018 from 18-23 March in Frankfurt. For more information contact julia.voellmecke@de.abb.com.
