One control panel for KNX systems and door communication

2017-03-08 - The new Busch-SmartTouch® is as easy to use as a smartphone and meets all requirements for perfect home automation
Building control should be intuitive and modern. Ideally, the fixed-installation panel should handle like a mobile end device so that it only takes a swipe of the finger to control the entire house, apartment, office or business rooms. With this in mind, ABB is adding the new Busch-SmartTouch® KNX to its range. This product follows the company’s previous successful LEAN and SMARTtouch.

This new panel provides a central control point for the ABB i-bus® KNX, which can also be used as an indoor video station for the ABB-Welcome door communication system – an excellent combination. The Busch-SmartTouch® is a fantastic option for new builds as well as renovation projects and is suitable both for family homes and for hotels or conference rooms in representative purpose-built buildings.

Intuitive operation for an easy life

The Busch-SmartTouch® follows the mobile trend: it features a high-quality capacitive touchscreen and is as easy to use as a smartphone or tablet. The intuitive display can be used to switch lighting on/off or dim or brighten it throughout the building, as well as control blinds and heating. An integrated room temperature controller ensures complete heating control. Complete scenes can be created from all of these functions, with a total of 480 KNX control elements displayed on max. 30 pages. The user can choose their favorite page and set timer programs. Logic functions and simulation of people in the building are also easy to configure. All of this makes life easier and safer for the user and saves energy in the process.

The color display measures 17.78 cm (7”) diagonally and features a 16:9 format. Especially noteworthy of the Busch-SmartTouch®: it is extremely slim at just 13 mm. The panel is available in two colors: real glass in black or white – so it can be perfectly combined with the carat® and Busch-axcent® switch ranges. The panel’s bottom design bar made of brushed stainless steel lends it a visual polish to complete this sleek design. When combined with the mounting frame, the Busch-SmartTouch® can be mounted on the old LEAN and SMARTtouch socket, normal power outlets and even the new ABB-Welcome table stands.

One device for two systems

The Busch-SmartTouch® operating system is supplied on the accompanying micro SD card (SDHC). This card must be inserted in the correct slot on the device when commissioning it for the first time. Later updates to the operating system take place via the SD card.

Combining home automation with the KNX system and the fully integrated functions of ABB-Welcome in one device is the great advantage of the Busch-SmartTouch®. In addition to a direct KNX connection, the panel also has a direct two-wire connection for ABB-Welcome. The multi-award-winning door communication system features an impressive holistic concept for lots of applications and sets benchmarks both in technology and design. Instead of requiring an additional indoor station for
ABB-Welcome, now it is super easy to answer the door with the Busch-SmartTouch®. This product opens up entirely new dimensions of building automation, for maximum convenience, safety, and energy efficiency.
