May 8, 2017, Beijing – ABB and Shanghai Electric Group Co., Ltd. (Shanghai Electric), the world’s largest manufacturer of offshore wind turbines¹, have recently signed the annual framework agreement on offshore 4MW wind turbine converter supply. By providing efficient and reliable converter products, ABB joins hands with Shanghai Electric on the exploration of the offshore wind power market. It is for the third consecutive year that the two parties have signed wind converter supply agreement since 2015.
As one of the largest enterprise groups in China’s equipment manufacturing industry, Shanghai Electric provides wind power solutions integrating the design, manufacturing, technical consulting and EPC of large wind turbine for customers all over the world. By the end of 2016, it accounted for 58% of the world’s total installed capacity in terms of offshore wind turbines. 4MW wind turbine is the flagship model supplied by Shanghai Electric and also the most popular model in today’s offshore wind power market.
As a partner and supplier of Shanghai Electric, ABB has tailored the wind turbine converter ACS880-87LC for Shanghai Electric’s offshore 4MW wind turbines so as to further consolidate its leading position in offshore wind power market. Compact in design and easy for installation, the full-power liquid-cooled wind turbine converter can be extensively applied to both onshore and offshore wind turbines. Under the agreement, ABB will supply 2.5MW wind turbine converters to Shanghai Electric as well.
Up to now, ABB has delivered as agreed more than 300 sets of 4MW wind power converters to Shanghai Electric, with a total installed capacity of more than 120 GW, which were applied in more than a dozen offshore wind power projects, including Xiangshui project of China Three Gorges Corporation, Rudong project of China Huaneng Group, Binhai project of State Power Investment Corporation, Nanri Island phase Ⅰ project of China Longyuan Power Group Corporation Limited, Rudong project of Sinohydro Corporation and Rudong project of China General Nuclear Power Corporation. The two parties worked together to promote the development and utilization of green and clean wind power in China.
With more than 30 years of experience in the R&D and manufacturing of wind turbine, ABB offers widely-used wind turbine converters, static synchronous compensator solutions of different specifications, as well as comprehensive wind power transformers, supporting products, various medium/low-voltage products and related services. To support the rapid development of wind power, ABB provides wind turbine generators, converters, motors, switchgears and other auxiliary equipment for wind turbine manufacturers as well as power equipment and solutions like transformers and substations required for wind power integration for onshore and offshore wind farm developers and grid operators.
