Zurich, Switzerland, September 18, 2014 – ABB, the leading power and automation technology group, has introduced its latest-generation traction transformer, which is being deployed on TER regional trains, being built by Alstom for SNCF, the French national railway company. ABB will be showcasing this recent innovation at the InnoTrans 2014 transportation event to be held from September 23-26 in Berlin.
The extremely compact and lightweight roof-mounted transformer is equipped with an integrated cooling system built with lightweight components. Its integrated double interleaved direct current (DC) line filter reactor allows maximal bulk reduction in the 1500V DC catenary supply. The small tank also contains a large auxiliary chopper reactor. Maximum noise reduction has also been taken into account via individual assembly.
Over the past decade, ABB has continually made design improvements in rail components, creating compact products like roof-installed transformers that reduce the equipment footprint without compromising performance.
