The inspection and diagnostic service is just one of 20 services offered by ABB that can help the water industry improve the operation of variable speed drives. Keeping these assets in full working order is ever more essential as the water industry moves to the TOTEX approach specified under AMP6.
ABB-certified engineers analyse the performance and condition of the drive at the water plant and use their expertise to provide detailed diagnostics and maintenance recommendations for the end user.
Two variants of the service are available: Drive Health Check, for ABB’s ACS607 and ACS800-07 drives, offers detailed measurement and inspection which takes place during the water plant’s planned shutdown. The condition of the drive is assessed, and recommendations are given for short-term and long-term maintenance.
The Drive Stress Check service, for ACS800 and ACS880 single drives and multidrive modules, requires no shutdown, and can be performed during normal operation. The stress status of the drive resulting from harsh, corrosive environments or heavy-duty pumping applications is identified, and recommendations are provided to mitigate their effects.
Drives often perform critical duties at water treatment works, such as controlling the levels of raw sewage in a storage tank or supplying drinking water to customers, and so failures can result in substantial losses in production and revenue, or fines if performance measures are breached. The inspection and diagnostics service helps to inform water plant operators of exactly what is going on inside their drive, and arm them with the knowledge to ensure that it continues to run at optimal efficiency.
As part of the service the drive will be registered with ABB, giving customers access to ABB’s worldwide service network, including online product manuals and maintenance recommendations, further protecting the condition of their drives.
