ABB opens state-of-the-art robotics center in Malaysia
First of its kind in the country, the center will also serve as ABB’s technology hub for water-jet cutting solutions to meet the region’s expanded market and application needs
Oct 17 - ABB, the leading power and automation technology group has opened a first of its kind robotics center in Malaysia which will showcase innovative solutions for key markets such as automotive, metal fabrication, foundry, food and beverage, electronics, plastics, as well as embryonic industries such as glove, solar, and the oil and gas sector.
YB Datuk Dr. Abu Bakar bin Mohamad Diah, Deputy Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Malaysia
The center was inaugurated today by YB Datuk Dr. Abu Bakar bin Mohamad Diah, Deputy Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Malaysia. Also present were Stephen Pearce, President and Country Manager, ABB Malaysia Sdn Bhd and Pauli Jarvinen, Senior Vice President and Head of Discrete Automation and Motion division, South Asia, ABB Group.
Located at ABB Malaysia’s head office in Subang Jaya, Selangor, the 375 square meter center will showcase the depth and breadth of ABB’s leading technologies and industry specific solutions to boost innovation in the country robotics ecosystem. Apart from a range of leading robots such as the IRB120, IRB1410, IRB2400, IRB360 (FlexPicker), IRB460 (Palletizer), IRB52 (FlexPainter) and IRB5400, the facility comprises a modern workshop, office and storage space, training center and conference rooms, which allows customized trainings for ABB value providers, customers and end-users.
The highlight is however the IRB2400 which has the most outstanding cutting performance in the market. With its leading path accuracy,
the IRB2400 is ideal for complex cutting operations such as laser welding and cutting, water-jet cutting, ultrasonic welding and other traditional mechanical equipment. The center also allows customers to experience unique features of ABB’s state-of-the-art motion control TruMoveTM
which is a culmination of the Group’s deep domain knowledge and expertise.
Water-jet cutting robots are fueling market expansion in Malaysia as well as the region by creating applications in a multitude of small as well as large scale production environment such as automotive, marine, mining and construction.
As a regional application center for water-jet cutting, the facility is poised to support buoyant growth of the automotive industry in Malaysia as well as neighboring countries such as Indonesia, Vietnam and Philippines.
In his opening speech, Stephen said “ The center reinforces our continued commitment and strategic efforts to bring breakthrough robotics technologies closer to the local market to accelerate an innovation-led economic growth in Malaysia. It allows ABB to respond even faster to customer and market needs, and provide high-quality service and technologies in tandem with our long term growth strategy,” he added.
A world leading manufacturer of industrial robots and robot systems, ABB operates in 53 countries, in over 100 locations around the world. It has the market’s widest range of robot-based packaging automation, including specialized robots for picking, packing and palletizing to meet the demands of most packaging industry applications.
