ABB launches Customer Configuration Center for industrial drives in Singapore

The center underlines ABB’s commitment to Singapore and the Asia Pacific region

ABB today opened a Customer Configuration Center (CCC) for its industrial drives in Singapore that will serve the Asia Pacific market, a key growth region for the company. This initiative will bring ABB closer to its customers in the region by offering better on-time delivery and adding value to their business.

The center will configure ACS880 industrial drives, one of ABB’s key products, which have been designed to help customers save energy and maximize productivity. Base units will be manufactured in existing factories in Europe and China, before final configuration and assembly in Singapore, according to customers’ needs. As such, the center will customize drives for various industrial applications and optimize inventory levels to meet the growing demand.

“Our new Customer Configuration Center will enable us to serve this core market even better, respond to our customers’ specific needs and to develop products that will drive customer quality and competitiveness, with a focus on energy efficiency,” said Johan de Villiers, Managing Director of ABB in Singapore. “The center is part of ABB’s Next Level strategy, which aims to focus on growth markets and accelerate sustainable value creation for our customers and shareholders,” he added.

The configuration center has the capacity to assemble 500 drives per month and pilot tests have shown that an order can be successfully received, assembled and delivered in 5 days, representing a 10-day reduction in lead time.

With its free trade status, central location in the Asia Pacific region along with excellent air, land and sea transport connectivity, Singapore is the ideal destination to establish the center. The CCC complements ABB’s existing regional distribution center, which ships over 170,000 items across its product portfolio every week and has been in operation in Singapore since 2000.
