ABB won order for large water power project in Lysebotn, Norway

2014-03-18 - ABB has been awarded a contract from Lyse Produksjon AS for the supply of power transformers with gas-insulated couplings to the new Lysebotn 2 water power station in Norway. The new plant will replace the existing power station, and ABB’s delivery is of benefit for the environment since the power production will increase without any new footprint in the environment.

The scope of supply includes two 215 MW power transformers and related gas-insulated couplings to the new power plats, planned for commissioning in spring 2018. The ABB equipment is to be delivered in 2018.

“We are very pleased that ABB once again has been selected as supplier to Lysebotn. In 2010 we successfully delivered two power transformers to the existing power station in Lysebotn, and the new power transformers will help increase the power production in the region,” said Göran Salomonsen, manager for ABB’s division Power Products.

The new power plant in Lysebotn is one of Norway’s largest water power projects for many years and will enable an 180 GWh increase in renewable energy production, equivalent to 15 percent up from today’s electricity production at the station, thanks to improved efficiency, increased height of fall and improved performance.

ABB is a leading supplier of power transformers in Norway, with a significant installed base and almost 100 years of experience in the field.
