ABB Cup National Intelligent Technology Thesis Contest kicks off
Promote local innovation and application of intelligent technologies and boost the deep integration of manufacturing and the Internet
At the "ABB Ability Innovation Day" held in Beijing today, ABB and the Chinese Association of Automation (CAA) signed an agreement to kick off the "First ABB Cup National Intelligent Technology Thesis Contest" (previously named the ABB Cup National Automation Thesis Contest). Under the theme of "Innovation of intelligent technologies creates the future", the contest aims to promote the close integration of academic research and industrial development, and to provide new insights to the digital transformation of China's industrial economy.
Dr. Gu Chunyuan, President of the Asia, Middle East and Africa (AMEA) Region, Chairman and President of ABB (China) Co., Ltd. said, "The Chinese economy is at a key stage of transforming development mode, optimizing and upgrading its structure, and shifting between new and old driving forces. The digital and intelligent technology is becoming an increasingly important impetus to enable this shift. Based on the successful experience over the years, the Contest will now focus more on the innovation and application of intelligent technology. It will provide a broad platform to display and exchange local innovations, to promote the integration of industry and academic research, and to support the domestic enterprises to seize the opportunities in the new industrial revolution with intelligent technologies."
The Contest was initiated by CAA in 2005. ABB (China) Ltd. has been the exclusive sponsor for the event. In the past 12 years, the Contest has attracted a large number of outstanding talents in the field of automation and has become an important platform for exchange of technical achievements. Until the latest Contest, a total of 8,541 people have participated in the contest and 3,723 pieces of papers submitted, including 223 award-winning papers. So far, eight collections of papers have been published containing more than 600 high-quality papers.
The Contest is mainly for enterprises and institutions engaged in automation and digital technology, as well as for teachers and researcher working in the related fields. Compared with the previous contests, the contest of this year focuses more on the selection of practical cases, and added the Excellent Practice Award to recognize the most innovative and feasible research and development achievements. The awarding ceremony will be held at Chinese Automation Congress in October, 2018.
Professor Wang Feiyue, Vice President and Secretary General of CAA, said at the signing ceremony: “As a key driver for the new round of industrial upgrade and transformation, Artificial Intelligence is boosting new business modes, driving industrial restructuring, and triggering the transition from Internet Plus to Intelligence Plus. The smarter machines, increased connectivity and interaction will lead to a more advanced economic and social ecosystem. In context with the megatrend, this year’s contest will focus on how to put the innovative intelligent technologies into practice, and provide a platform for the participants to present their achievements.”
The signing ceremony of the Contest is part of today's "ABB Ability Innovation Day". At the event, customers, business partners and industry insiders exchanged their thoughts and practices on intelligent technology innovation and the construction of digital ecosystem. The guests also visited the newly inaugurated ABB Digital Technology Showroom to have a close view of the full picture of ABB
