Beijing, August 15, 2017 – ABB has recently won an order to provide intelligent and digitalized measurement devices for a water supply network optimization project in Jiegu Town, Yushu County of Qinghai Province. Located at an average elevation of over 3,600 meters, it is a water supply project implemented at the world’s highest altitude. ABB’s mesurement products, including AquaMaster electromagnetic flowmeters and AquaProbe Insertion electromagnetic flowmeters with pressure sensors, are used to improve the management and control of the water supply network. Apart from high accuracy, the flowmeters also feature wireless transmission of metering data that makes remote monitoring possible.
Located on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, Yushu County has relatively adverse natural conditions. In 2010, several strong earthquakes struck Yushu County and caused huge destruction to local infrastructure facilities. Recently, in face of the high leakage rate and ineffective management and control of the water supply network, local government of Jiegu Town started a reconstruction project which includes the rebuilding of 48 monitoring stations of water pressure and flow, and adding 2,000-meter water supply pipeline. The project sets high requirement for the intelligent equipment that provides effective measurement of water pressure and flow.
Flow and pressure data are two significant parameters indicating the safety and efficiency of water supply network. Pressure metering, for example, provides monitoring against pipeline burst and ensure the safety of water supply of the entire network. ABB AquaMaster electromagnetic flowmeter with pressure sensor, can ensure high accuracy even at extremely low flow rates. Powered by battery, it provides reliable data for pipeline leakage monitoring. It also supports pressure metering and wireless transmission of data through the transmitter which makes remote monitoring possble.
The other ABB product to be installed is the AquaProbe insertion electromagnetic flowmeter. It also supports wireless data transmission and pressure metering. Powered by battery, its advantages of easy installation, online hot plug supporting, and low cost of owership makes it a highly competitive option for large pipeline water monitoring. The customer can also test the performance of ABB measurement products online via ABB CalMaster system.
Based on these advanatges, ABB AquaMaster and AquaProbe have been chosen as the only designated flow meters by the customer to monitor the flow and pressure at critical points of the water supply network. Upon completion, the flow and pressure data at different parts of the network can be checked in a more timely and visualized manner to effictively control the leakage and system losses, and improve the water management system.
The water industry is one of the business focuses that ABB has been exploring. Up till now, ABB has participated in lots of major projects in water industry. Its intelligent and reliable products together with sound services has helped many Chinese cities to improve water management and water supply efficiency, including Shanghai, Hangzhou, Nanjing, Xi’an and Changchun, offering strong support for the development of the key infrastructure and improving people’s lives across the country.
