Quality electricity is imperative

Tata Steel is one of the country’s top three steel producers, with operations across 50 countries and output of 7,941,000 tonnes in 2013.

A capacity of 10 million ton per annum makes Tata Steel’s plant in Jamshedpur one of the largest integrated steel plant sites in the world. The plant delivers large parts of Tata Steel’s flat and long product segments - flat steel caters to the automobile industry and long to the construction segment.

Quality electrical power is a critical energy requirement for an industry like steel. And ABB India has been partnering Tata Steel to meet this requirement. ABB India has provided high-end technologies for processes, in drives, DCS, electrical switchgear, motors and other diversified areas. The customer is also testing the viability of some technology-based ABB services and experimenting remote diagnostic services for critical equipment and provision of onsite service support.

In the following video, Avneesh Gupta, Chief of Electrical Maintenance, Tata Steel Limited, shares his views on the industry’s dependence on reliable power and increasing need for efficiency.
