ABB service creates long-term value for customers

The ABB Service Week themed on “Lifecycle Management and Digital Service” was officially kicked off today. Over the coming week, ABB will demonstrate its leading service throughout equipment lifecycle and share its experience in digital services in a variety of forms including product demonstration, customer workshop, product seminar and factory tour, to promote itself as the partner of choice for Chinese customers.

Dr. Chunyuan Gu, President of Region Asia, Middle East and Africa (AMEA), Chairman and President of ABB (China) Ltd. said: “Enhancing customer experience and providing professional consulting, software and value-added services underpin ABB’s profitable growth under the ‘Next Level’ strategy. ABB advocates comprehensive and professional service based on partnership. Through the lifecycle management and cutting-edge digital services, ABB can help utility, industry, transportation and infrastructure customers improve equipment reliability and productivity, further enhancing their market competitiveness.”

Since the establishment of the first joint venture in China in 1992, ABB has been partnering with Chinese customers for 25 years. Its large installed base in China, including more than six million units of systems and equipments running at customer sites, is constantly fueling demands for services. ABB is well positioned to help the customers maintain the best running state of existing equipments and extend their lifecycle to improve asset performance with professional, fast and comprehensive services.

At present, ABB has a team of 1,500 service professionals in China, covering more than 60 key cities. With strong local facilities such as the customer service Call Center, 16 service centers, specific service worbkshops and factories, spare parts warehouse and customer training centers, ABB provides more than 400 solutions covering installation and commissioning, maintenance and repair, asset management, diagnostic consulting, upgrades and replacement, including industry leading ABB Ability™ digital services and solutions.

“In recent years, ABB has maintained double-digit growth in service business in China. In the first half of 2017, our service business hit 16% year-on-year growth.” Said Jianhua Huang, Vice President of ABB (China) Ltd. and Head of ABB China Service, “Apart from that, We have also further boosted innovation in service business. For instance, we introduced the ABB China Service APP earlier this year to help customers find a variety of service resources in a simple, fast and accurate manner. And the release of ABB Ability™ cloud service cloud combines massive data and our domain expertise to benefit more customers from ABB’s innovative services.”

ABB service not only serves as a “firefighter” after equipment failures, but also features a “health consultant” who provides 7x24 hour care, helping customers take preventive measures through real-time monitoring and proactive maintenance of equipments and systems to improve the efficiency of asset operation and create long-term value. The latest examples include -

  • For utility, ABB applies X-ray technology to field test of the dead tank breakers (DTBs) at State Grid Liaoning Electric Power Company, with operating hours of interrupter inspection reduced from 4 days to 1 day, fulfilling the “impossible task” through innovative technology application to meet the customer's requirements for maintenance time.
  • For industry, ABB provides Connected Service for 270 ABB robots at Volvo Cars Chengdu manufacturing plant, enabling the customer to monitor the state of robots and receive early warnings remotely in real time on a single screen. ABB technical team determines, analyzes and eliminates failures before dead halts, to ensure the continuous and efficient production of the workshop.
  • For transportation, ABB provides long-term lifycycle management service for turbochargers on 23 vessels of China Shipping Container Lines (CSCL), including preventive maintenance to tackle potential problems, thus improving the operation reliability and safety of the turbochargers and reducing maintenance costs.
  • For infrastructure, ABB offers a wide range of services to HUAWEI’s data centers in Langfang, Xi’an, Beijing, Dongguan, Nanjing and Wuhan, covering field testing, troubleshooting, maintenance, and engineering and consulting based on production, safety and efficiency analysis to ensure reliable power supply.

In addition, ABB will set up a new service center in Shenzhen this month to optimize ABB service footprint across the country. The establishment of the center will help ABB services get closer to the South China market and respond more rapidly to local customer needs. This will also add up the number of ABB's comprehensive service centers in China to 17.
