ABB has been awarded an 8 million Norwegian kroner contract by the data center developer Bulk Infrastructure to provide electrical equipment for Oslo Internet Exchange (OS-IX). ABB will deliver medium- and low-voltage products for a stable and energy efficient data center power supply.
“Data centers are among the most demanding industries for uptime and energy efficient power supply,” says Mr. Pål Trygve Nilsen, responsible for data centers at ABB in Norway. “This contract confirms ABB’s position in this exciting industry as a supplier of reliable power products and systems.”
“We conducted a comprehensive bidding process to safeguard a proper supply of electrical equipment for the new power center supplying the OS-IX. We are pleased to award the contract to ABB and we feel confident that they will contribute to a smooth project execution through good collaboration and a strong solution,” says Thomas Hammer Tveit, property manager at OS-IX.
ABB is a main vendor of power and automation systems to different levels for major data centers globally, and data centers are a focus area in Norway as well. ABB has thus supplied equipment to a number of the larger data center developments in Norway recently.
“ABB continues to grow its presence in the data center industry globally, a development being reflected in the Norwegian market. The activities are increasing, and the industry requires solutions with maximum availability and energy efficient power consumption,” says Nilsen.
The scope of supply to Bulk Infrastructure comprises of 11 kilovolts (kV) UniGear ZS1 medium-voltage switchgear, 3.6 Megavolt amperes liquid-cooled transformers, 400 Volt MNS 3.0 main and distribution panels, 110 Volt direct current (DC) battery system and control system.
“Bulk Infrastructure is an active player having realized the potential for growth in the data center industry. We are glad to be able to contribute in providing reliable server solutions for their valued clients,” says Nilsen.
OS-IX is scheduled for operation first quarter of 2017.
ABB offers complete power and automation infrastructure for modern data centers. For the power train, the scope includes connection to the grid, direct or alternating current power systems and battery systems at all levels. For efficient operation of data centers ABB offers a common platform for control of power and automation including a unique system, which can fully integrate third party sub-systems.
