ABB Ability™ Electrical Distribution Control System makes debut in China

2017-06-29 - Innovative cloud platform for future energy management

Hangzhou, China, June 29, 2017 – ABB, a Fortune500 corporation and the leading power and automation technology group, today announced ABB Ability™ Electrical Distribution Control System (EDCS) at ABB Customer World 2017.

ABB Ability™ Electrical Distribution Control System, an innovative cloud-computing platform designed to monitor, optimize and control an electrical system, which leverages Emax 2 air circuit breaker delivering advanced intelligence and connectivity, enables multi-user access and multi-device connection in an integrated plug & play architecture. As part of ABB Ability™, it provides a world-class cloud architecture for efficient and reliable data collection, processing and storage, which was jointly developed by ABB and Microsoft to improve performance, safety and reliability of electrical systems.

“Realizing advanced monitoring and energy management through cloud connectivity of circuit breakers represents a major for ABB in applying digital innovations to routine equipment management.” Said David Lin, manager of product marketing and technical sales at ABB China Electrification Products Division, “This pioneering technology in the field of electrical distribution writes the new blueprint of energy and device management and sets a new benchmark in simplicity and performance.”

Compared with similar solutions, ABB Ability™ EDCS with an integrated plug & play architecture requires 60 percent fewer hardware components, and delivers high scalability and state-of-the-art services, avoiding the time and cost needed to install, commission and upgrade an energy management system composed of multiple components.

ABB Ability™ EDCS features Web App interfaces that allow the user to do the following anytime and anywhere through a smartphone, tablet or PC:

  • Monitoring: inspecting equipment performance, monitoring usage of the electrical system and devices on individual tributaries and breaking down the cost.
  • Optimization: automatically generating analysis reports on regular basis, optimizing asset usage and enabling right operational decisions.
  • Control: providing real-time alerts and alarms to operation and maintenance engineers, realizing efficient energy management strategies remotely and easily implementing energy efficiency management.

Delivering such features as real-time monitoring and analysis of the entire electrical system and working with Emax 2 to realize energy management, ABB Ability™ EDCS makes energy saving viable and extremely simple. Only through a few clicks, the user can track the system’s electricity usage, break down cost and judge the improvement opportunity, enabling intelligent power usage, improving productivity and reducing operational cost by 30 percent.

Additionally, ABB Ability™ EDCS delivers special features like energy quality analysis to effectively shorten the investment payback period and improve the project value through realizing the energy efficiency goal and providing continuous improvement options.

ABB Ability™ EDCS can be used for a range of applications, in particular for commercial buildings, as well as industrial facilities and infrastructure, such as hotel, office building, shopping mall, retailer and chain operation, healthcare facility, sports & convention center, school, warehouse, urban pump station, data center, telecom equipment room, information processing center, airport, and electronic plant, which may help users to improve energy efficiency management of their electrical systems.
