Considered January 1, 2018, Marcel van der Hoek is assigned as Country Managing Directory of Bulgaria, replacing Ekkehard Neureither who spent five years as a country leader in Bulgaria and is taking new responsibilities within ABB.
Marcel van der Hoek holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Rotterdam University in the Netherlands. He is married has two children.
Between 1994 and 2005, he worked for different positions in ABB in different countries in the area of general management, sales, and business development. Since 2005, he joined ABB Bulgaria responsible for the Low Voltage products division, including the factory in Petrich and the sales organization. In 2007 he was appointed as local division manager for two divisions for the cluster Bulgaria, Romania, Moldova for Low Voltage Products and Discrete Automation and motion divisions.
In 2011 Mr. van der Hoek joined ABB Slovakia as Country Manager and led the country successfully for over six years. During his stay, ABB Slovakia expanded its business in many directions, including Robotics, power, automation and services. Customers in area of utilities, power generation, Industry and infrastructure have benefited from the ABB solutions and services which resulted in significant reduction in their energy consumption, service costs and increased productivity. Also in the area of renewables, like solar and electro vehicle charging ABB supported the way forward of Slovak infrastructure. In Slovakia one of the major business challenges is a lack of available workforce. ABB installed over 2000 robots in Slovakia which helped those companies to remain the operations running and doing so more effectively and safe. Marcel’s expertise will be a valuable asset for ABB Bulgaria.
ABB has over 2,500 employees in Bulgaria and operates with a head office in Sofia and four branches across the country. Two of the manufacturing units are located in Rakovski and produce low and medium voltage electrical components. The other two factories are located in Petrich, for Low Voltage Products, and in Sevlievo for High Voltage Products. ABB also has a Turbocharger Service Station in Varna.
