Located in Dalian, a city in northeastern China, Hengli Petrochemical Industrial Park is one of the country’s largest petrochemical refinery complexes with an annual production of 6.6 million tons of purified terephthalic acid for polyester production.
In such large refinery operations, reliable power supply is crucial to ensure uninterrupted production. In a power system, a switchgear controls and protects the network from all types of system faults that could occur, such as lightning strikes or short-circuits which that could potentially lead to network failure.
ABB will design, deliver and commission 110 and 220-kilovolt (kV) gas-insulated switchgear and medium voltage circuit breakers with diagnostic features to be installed at two substations that will supply power to the petrochemical complex. The compact design of ABB’s GIS technology allows a space sav-ing of up to 90 percent compared to air-insulated switchgear.
