ABB elaborates the concept of Microgrid in the APEC 2013 forum

2013-10-08 - ABB received the honor to share information about the Microgrid technology with delegates of the APEC Conference on Clean, Renewable Energy and Sustainable Use of Energy (APCRES), which took place at the Ayodya Resorts, Nusa Dua Bali, Indonesia, on September 30 – October 2, 2013, as part of the APEC 2013 Summit. Dr. Michael Jansen, Head of Power Generation ABB Australia and Head of ABB’s global Centre of Competence “Microgrids and Renewable Integration” represented ABB to speak in the forum. ABB received official invitation to take part in the forum from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources of the Republic of Indonesia on behalf of the Government of the Republic of Indonesia.
ABB was specifically asked by the Indonesian Government to detail the concept of microgrid in this forum. This was particularly strategic related to the government’s plan to reduce its dependence to the use of fossil fuel in distributing electricity power throughout the country, while at the same time seeking for ideal solution to ensure even distribution of electricity to the regions, even the most remote and isolated islands of the country.

About APEC 2013

This year, one of APEC conference’s focuses is the issue of energy security as an important component of sustainable growth with equity. APEC member economies are encouraged to strengthen their collective effort to promote clean and renewable energy resources as alternative energy from the conventional non-renewable ones we are familiar with.

To that, the Indonesian government took the initiative to hold the “APEC Conference on Clean, Renewable Energy and Sustainability” with expected outputs of promoting strategic issues and fostering cooperation among APEC member economies in developing clean and renewable energy resources, especially by applying clean and renewable energy policy, developing energy comprising technology, boosting investments in clean and renewable energy sector, as well as increasing capacity building projects and technical cooperation.

This conference is expected to produce workable recommendations for the meeting of top Leaders of the Asia and the Pacific Region economies, which will take place a few days after the conclusion of this Event. The expected recommendations will be on how to boost investments in clean and renewable energy in the Region, in fostering beneficial cooperation among the economies and in engaging rigorous capacity building to embrace the coming era of low carbon and resilient economy in Asia and the Pacific Region and in the world.
