Thinking outside the box - ABB launches inaugural intervarsity innovation challenge in Malaysia

Oct 25 : In reaching out to the country’s best academic talent and to promote long-term disruptive technologies as well as mid- to short-term evolutionary innovations, ABB in Malaysia launched the Inaugural Intervarsity Innovation Challenge on Friday, October 21.
Aimed at nurturing ingenuity, inventiveness and innovation, the competition which is supported by the Ministry of Higher Education also seeks to bridge the gap between industries and universities.

It centers on three key topics which are having the biggest impact in how we live our lives today and into the future namely Smart Grid and City; Smart Industry and Production; and Smart Home and Building.

The competition is open to all full time students in public universities nationwide as well as private institutions of higher learning in Selangor. It is divided into two categories with the first open to undergraduates and the second for post-graduate students.

Winner for each category will receive a cash prize of RM10,000/- respectively with the runner-up receiving RM5,000/- each.

Participation is open to both individual entries as well as teams of not more than three per group.

To be considered for the competition, all entries must be submitted by 11.59pm on Tuesday, November 15, 2016, to Koo Siang Wooi and Toh Jin Hong.

The final competition round will be held on December 2, 2016, with the best five entries for each category invited to present their submission. The panel of jury will comprise leading industry experts who share ABB’s passion for discovering breakthrough technologies that will change the future.
