ABB Czech Republic adds industrial sockets manufacturing
ABB’s Low Voltage Products division in Jablonec nad Nisou will expand its manufacturing capabilities, assuming activities transferred from ABB Sweden.
Prague, 19 March 2014 – ABB, a leading global power and automation technology group, has announced another major step in increasing the importance of its Czech subsidiary in the European market. It will transfer the industrial plugs and socket-outlets product group to ABB Jablonec nad Nisou from the Swedish company ABB CEWE. The move consolidates the division’s manufacturing activity which will optimize costs and increase the competitiveness of this product group to support its growth in existing and new markets.
This product group contains 2,800 product types ranging from simple plugs and sockets for industrial purposes (commonly known as three-phase plugs and sockets) to more complex modular combi units. Along with the products, the production equipment will also be transferred to the Jablonec unit. The transfer includes the plug and socket automated production line and the presses for the plastic part production, along with robot peripheries used for completion.
All transferred products have already been included into the ABB ČR product portfolio, and will now be delivered from the Czech Republic instead from Sweden.
Plugs and sockets for industrial purposes are designed for use in industrial facilities and construction, where safety, resistance, reliability and cost reduction are required. They are also used in applications which require a high-level of protection against external risks. This equipment ensures the connection of electric devices rated for higher voltage and currents than home-use plugs and sockets. The most common examples include the three-phase power supply system for industrial applications and power transmission, such as the power supply for three-phase electric motors. The design of these power plugs and sockets complies with international standards laid down by IEC 60 309-1, -2, -3, and -4.
With more than 145-year history, ABB’s production unit in Jablonec has been a manufacturer and supplier of home-use wiring equipment (plugs and sockets). Its product range consists of 15 design ranges in many colours and material combinations.
