Industry training from a global leader

ABB Australia Low Voltage Products Division presents a series of professional development and competency training modules to industry. The new professional development training program will be started in 2013. The training modules are designed to educate and inform industry in a variety of low voltage switch-gear and control-gear topics. The training is based upon the ABB international training programs, ensuring the content is an up to date industry based program from a global leader.

The emphasis of this professional development and competency program is to educate basic principles of low voltage electrical engineering relating to the correct application of switch-gear and control-gear products in a classroom style environment.

ABB is developing its professional development and competency program in Australia and is planning to cooperate together with technical universities for both higher education and TAFE.

Ian Richardson, Senior Product Engineer, has responsibility for a new professional development training program in ABB Australia. Ian joined ABB Australia in 2005 and has over 35 years’ experience in the Australian electrical industry. As a member of the Low Voltage Products Division of ABB Australia, Ian previously held the role of Product Manager for Final Distribution Products, specialising in residual current devices, miniature circuit breakers, surge protection, energy metering and alternative energy applications such as solar. In addition to his training program part of the job, in his current role of Senior Product Engineer Ian also provides technical backup support to the technical support people in each of the ABB Low Voltage Business Units. Ian represents ABB Low Voltage Products on a number of industry associations such as the KNX National Group Australia (currently Chairman), RMIT University Sustainable Systems Engineering Industry Forum and also the Australian Industry Group Electrical Manufacturing Member Reference Group.
